Workshop
“I BELIVE AN ARCHITECT IS AN ARTIST WHO PRESENT HIS ART IN FORM OF HIS BUILDING & HIS WORK” .
It was a great experience we had in a Jamia Milia Islamia college i.e. bamboo workshop it was on 17th march and ends on 20th march. We learnt different technique regarding how we can use bamboo as a building construction material.
On the 1st day of the workshop we had a chance to attend a lecture by AR. Ar. Sonia Chaudhary & Ar. Mohammad Ziauddin they inspire us with their knowledge & taught us how efficiently we can use bamboo as in building construction. After half day we went on site we learnt and practical how we can use bamboo with different purpose.
After a second half a competition was held by the same college i.e. construction with help of bamboo. Who so ever will won it will be practically implement on site i.e. was competition. It was a great fun to have such design competition at the end of the day we submitted our design with a small jury.
On the net day we knew about the winners of the competition. Of the design was finalized which is going to be implement on site. I was on 2nd team who is going to design a sitting in a curve.
During implementation of design we got to know what the problems and how we deal with them. In our situation we have to bend the bamboo there we learnt the technique i.e. RUB-RUB technique (it is like take a bamboo with the help of an instrument SAW we cut the half –half bamboo at a distance of 200mm- 250mm in case of thick bamboo this cut will turn into a V shape curve and distance will be lead up to 500mm to 600mm) After this we saw a bamboo is easy to bend.
After this we have to tie the bamboo logs with a rope we learnt the technique how to tie a bamboo with jute rope in cross section. This is quite easy & tricky. Another method in which we used to tie it with bolting technique. Evening of day second our design is completed.
On 3rd day we had a chance to work on the main structure that is done by the help of machinery equipment’s

2. Nut and bolt joins
3. How to grind bamboo
4. How to slice the bamboo
At the end of the second day we learnt how we can make jali, arch and the roof covering etc. and what are the other products we can make with the with the help of bamboo.
At the end of the day we had a closing ceremony where participants were awarded with the certificate. We said good bye to our friend who were with us in this workshop.
I conclude it was a great experience to have a work in a group we learn new ways to do a particular work and we can learn lot from each other. At last I would like to thanks Jamia Milila college and there facility for such a great workshop. Special thanks to Ar. Shabeena & Ar. Omer sir to have with us in whole 3 days .
